Vegetables, Herbs & Produce

There is something very rewarding about growing your own – from seeds and little seedlings…and in turn collecting their seeds and planting them again….a perfect example of the cycle of life.

We encourage and foster a love of home gardening, especially growing your own produce.

Culinary and medicinal herbs take your garden to the next level and add a dimension of possibility.

Your Local Specialists in Seedlings, Herbs & Seeds

We stock a large range of vegetables, herbs and produce.

Depending on your space, you can enjoy backyard produce gardening in so many ways…planting directly into the ground, building raised beds or simply by container gardening using pots of various sizes.

In the future, food security will be an important consideration for us all – giving the next generation the tools to feed themselves – is setting themselves up for a sustainable life.

Not only are our seedlings, herbs and seeds all sourced from local and Australian companies, here at the Nursery we also propagate many plant varieties ourselves including chilies and tomatoes.

Each year we select the best and most popular tomato cultivars and grow from seed right here on the property. We focus on heritage varieties and nurture our plants until ready for sale, ensuring healthy, strong plants – giving you the best chance of success.

We are passionate about bringing the taste back into tomatoes! Growing and harvesting your own takes us back to a time where tomatoes were lusciously thin skinned, firm and full textured, juicy and bursting with flavour. Nostalgia aside, we truly want to support families by enabling them to experience the joy of growing and tasting their own food – forget the middleman – do it yourself…the subversive art of home grown!

We aim to supply you with all the traditional vegetables and herbs plus offer something out of the ordinary too….try growing okra perhaps? And we only stock what is in season so you gain more understanding about what grows when and can have the best success growing at home.

We are also very proud to stock Eden Seeds….an Australian company focused on old, traditional, open pollinated varieties.

In Autumn we are able to offer many varieties of garlic to be grown at home. Our Garlic is Australian grown, it has not been sprayed with growth inhibitors and so is able to be harvested and replanted again and again – so a perpetual garlic plant can be a reality – a win for sustainability.

We love our potatoes here at the Nursery – as creamy mash, steamed with greens, scrummy big fat wedges or baked in their jackets – and can’t imagine a world without the humble spud. Our seed potatoes generally arrive in late May/early June and are certified to ensure they do not harbor any nasty pathogens or disease. We usually stock plenty of varieties from the well known Dutch Cream and Pontiac to the more adventurous Royal Blue and Otway Red. Potatoes are not potatoes are not potatoes….in truth there is so much variety in texture and taste. What is available to us as shop bought produce has been narrowed down to only a few cultivars, but there is a world of potatoes just waiting to be discovered.

And they are so easy to grow. In South Australia, we suggest planting them in the cooler months so they can be harvested by about December or before it gets just way too hot. They do need space, so consider perhaps a dedicated potato bed or container.

In Winter we delight in the arrival of our Asparagus crowns – both green and purple. So easy to grow and once planted, they are friends for life… long lived and dependable. Shallots which are a very easily grown bulb and the ever reliable Jerusalem Artichokes also arrive.

Produce plants come in all shapes and sizes – we are confident there is something to suit your garden and allow you to begin your food growing journey…..Where to begin? Perhaps with a small patch of rhubarb to harvest & make your first crumble, planting creeping thyme between some pavers so that in summertime the pungent oils are released as you tread on them, making space for a lemon verbena shrub whose intense smell hits you as you brush past it to pick a few leaves for tea, training your first passionfruit vine along a trellis, a special container potted up with fresh basil to pick as garnish for your homemade pizza. The possibilities are endless. Just make a start.
