Poetry, romance and old world charm – Roses bring all this to your garden and more. Their cultivation dates back some 5,000 years and mankind have loved their blooms and fragrance for centuries.

Roses are surprisingly hardy – their delicacy belies their tough dispositions. Extremely well adapted to South Australian conditions, they are a perfect choice for most gardens.

Of all our senses, smell has the ability to evoke such strong emotions, reactions and memories. Planting a rose, brings fragrance and perfume to your garden and exquisite blooms with few requirements.

Roses are the quintessential cut flower – elegant and long lasting in a vase – they add style and beauty to your home.
We stock the “old favourites”, such as Just Joey, Double Delight, Mr. Lincoln, Gold Bunny and Iceberg. But each year we introduce some of the recent releases. Many of these latest cultivars are developed in partnership with charitable organisations – making them not only exciting and original – but also part proceeds from their sale are directed back to the charities themselves.

A personal favourite of ours would have to be Pierre de Ronsard. This columnular variety produces soft pink to white double flowered fragrant blooms. It is ideally trained over an arch or up a column/post!

By choosing the right rose variety, any colour of the rainbow can be brought into your garden…rich, velvety reds, bright fresh whites, eye popping yellows and oranges and of course pinks in all shades.

Roses have so many applications in a garden. They can be trellised against a wall, trained over an arch, dotted amongst perennials, used as sentinels in a pair of ornamental pots, pruned as an informal hedge or as a stunning feature plant in that special spot.

Because of their hardiness and longevity, roses are often chosen as a memorial plant – and families and friends often tell us of their personal experiences.

Roses teach us many things about general plant maintenance. Best planted in full sun and with good air-flow around them, roses will happily go about their lives. We find a good preventative measure – to ensure the best protection against common diseases – is the application of a lime sulphur spray in Winter. This helps attend to pests and diseases that may be overwintering on the branches. They do also need a seasonal prune in Winter (when they are dormant) to promote new spring growth and a good hygiene practice at this time is to clean up the dead leaves underneath the bush. After their first flush of flowers, we suggest simply trimming off old blooms to stimulate another burst of blossom in Autumn. In late summer and early spring they love a feed with a rose specific fertiliser – one high in potassium to ensure good flower development.
