Perennials exhibit strong rapid growth each year and their growing cycles emphasise rhythm and seasonality. By their nature, these plants are cut back each winter and shoot up again in the warmer months, once again putting on a beautiful display. They are long flowering – often providing blooms for up to six month of the year, sometimes even longer!
The use of well chosen perennial plants underpins the success of any garden. Full sun, part shade, coastal and varying soil types all have niche requirements but be assured there is a flowering perennial for any condition.
Heat and sun loving perennials include Salvia sp., Daisies, Geraniums, Pelargoniums and Statice just to name a few.
Include Osteospermums, Gauras, Rosemary, Lobularia and Duranta in your garden design as forage plants for bees & beneficial insects. And we always see the bees buzzing on the Bidens sp in our Nursery.
The elusive Native Blue Banded Bee is especially attracted to the purple flower spikes of Lavender sp. – just an added bonus and another reason to plant these compact, hardy shrubs.

Children are especially amazed by the metamorphosis of egg to munching caterpillar to hanging chrysalis to the emerging brilliant butterfly. It is truly a gift to be able to witness this transformation in our very own gardens.

By planting Gomphocarpus fruticosus (Swan Bush) which is recognised as the favourite host plant of these beautiful butterflies, the Monarch will be stimulated to lay its eggs on the underside of the leaves. And so the cycle begins….
