Annual flowers allow us to create a new garden each season, providing a pop of colour and are so quick & easy to plant. Planted in pots or in drifts in the garden, the beautiful but impermanent nature of the flowering annuals heralds the change of seasons. As we lovingly replace our Poppies with Petunias we recognise and understand the transition from the colder months and begin to focus our attention towards the warmer months to come.
Potted colour or fast growing flowering annuals such as Delphiniums, Larkspur, Violas, Petunias and Pansies can quickly transform an event space and create an instant effect. Many event planners know the ambience that well placed containers and blooms can bestow.
Bulbs too enrich our home spaces, either left to naturalise in the garden or as living decor in pots dotted around in particular places – especially sitting on our balconies, decks or patios for all to enjoy.
Flowering bulbs emerge at different times of the year to surprise us and add excitement to our gardens. We generally offer our selection of Bulbs twice a year. The Spring flowering bulbs include favourites such as Daffodils (Narcissus sp.), Windflowers (Anemone sp.), Hyacinth, Freesias, Tulips and Ranunculi sp. and are supplied in Autumn to be planted out then to settle in and enjoy the seasonal rainfall and emerge once the warmth has arrived.
The collection of summer flowering bulbs – which are planted out in Winter for a glorious Summer display – include the highly fragrant Lilium sp., elegant Calla lilies, Dame Edna’s favourite, the Gladioli sp., showy Dahlias and the spectacular trumpets of Hippeastrum sp.
By fertilising Bulbs at the right time, they can remain with us for many years. Perhaps counter intuitively, by feeding them when they begin to die down after flowering, nutrients are able to be taken back into the bulb itself and stored, making it plump and full of promise. This practise maximises strong new growth and blooms for the following season.
